Columbia v. Yale Football Program 1939. 32 pages in very good condition. Large size program measures 9 inches x 12 inches. Game played at the Yale Bowl. Nice cover illustration by Esther James shows four football players in sihouette on the edges of the program. Ducky Pond served as the headcoach of Yale and is pictured in the program wearing a sweatshirt that reads "Ducky" across the front. Pond was a Yale coach for seven years and coached back-to-back Heismann trophy winners. "Ducky" was a nickname given to him by the famous sportswriter Grantland Rice. Includes a nice rundown on the Yale training facility at Gales Ferry. Columbia was coached this year by Hall of Famer Lou Little, who is pictured in the program. Little guided Columbia to a victory in the Rose Bowl in 1934 and served with distinction as the Sixth Infantry Division in WWI. The program includes pictures of players from both teams. The original scorecard on page 15 is unmarked. Future president Gerald Ford is also pictured in the program on page 19, he was a coach for Yale. Quite a historic old program.
