Ezra Cornell depiction on a Royal Doulton plate. Marked on the reverse of this beautiful blue and white portrait plate honoring Ezra Cornell, founder of Cornell University, dates it to between 1902 and the 1930s. The mark attributes the plate to Rothschild Bros of Ithaca, New York. An impressed “Doulton Burslem England” mark also appears. On the plate’s front is Cornell’s name, the inscription "I Would Found An Institution Where Any Person Can Find Instruction In Any Study” and the date 1865. The plate is in very good condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches or repairs, just a small smudge in the porcelain as part of the firing process (seen in the top of the photo). A real looker!
