Earl Christy Harvard Artwork - Framed circa 1905. picture shows a smiling young lady, festively attired in a dress of Harvard crimson and long white gloves, waving a Harvard pennant. Perhaps she is on her way to root for the Crimson at a football contest. The signature "F. Earl Christy" appears adjacent to the figure's leg just below the dress. The piece is framed under glass. The outer dimensions of the vintage red and gold wooden frame are 8" x 10". The image, as visible through the frame opening, measures approx. 3” x 5”. F. Earl Christy was born in Philadelphia in 1882 and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He is best known for his depictions of pretty women. As a young commercial artist in the early 1900s, he created numerous illustrations of attractive girls and student athletes representing the Ivy League and other colleges, which were produced on postcards, posters, china, textiles, and other memorabilia. In the 1920s and 1930s, Christy's romantically idealized portraits were frequently featured in advertisements and on the covers of numerous movie magazines and other publications. Christy died in 1961.
