Color print of Football Match between Yale and Princeton, measures 20 inches x 16 inches. The original illustration was done by A.B. Frost and this was reproduced/printed by Aaron Ashley, Inc. in 1971. The image depicted is of an early football game between Yale and Princeton which took place on Thanksgiving, November 27, 1879. Early college football games used rules more akin to rugby. The print is unframed, but obviously suitable for framing.
The 1879 Yale team was a powerhouse. It was captained by the "father of American football," Walter Camp. Also on the team was Frederic Remington, who would go on to be the most recognizable artist of the rugged American West frontier, capturing imagery of cowboys, especially in sculpture.
