Columbia University Sculpture Goddess Athena Alma Mater Statue. The beautiful Alma Mater, a sculpture of the goddess Athena, holding a scepter, a crown and an open bible and a torch symbolizes wisdom and learning. Measures 6 1/2 inches wide, 6 inches deep and 10 inches tall. Weighs 5 pounds. Made of bonded Marble Resin.
Commissioned by a Columbia alumni and completed in 1903, it was designed by Daniel Chester French. The statue reigns on the campus of Columbia in Morningside Heights in front of the Low Memorial Library.
