Vintage Framed Princeton University 1913 Bird's Eye Campus View in very good condition. The artist was Richard Rummell (1848-1924). Rummell was a Brooklyn based artist who specialized in works of colleges and universities. Since it was quite difficult to do a bird's eye view in 1913 it has been speculated that Rummell worked from a hot air balloon, however, it is more likely that he used some process of isometric drawing to convey the illusion of altitude. His original prints were done in small editions and are extremely difficult to find, thus the reproduction.
The lithographic print was hand pulled on imported (from France) 100% rag content paper and hand painted. The front is a high quality acrylic instead of glass. Acrylic provides for better thermal insulation. The frame has some wear and dings as seen in the image, and the rear has some ripping to the paper.
Measures 37 1/2 inches by 26 inches. Subtle use of colors on the print shows all the key campus buildings.
A real dazzler, would set the tone in an office, family room or conference room.
Its large size makes it a stunning. A rare Princeton item.
