Program for the annual University of Pennsylvania Relay Carnival 1926. 64 pages with illustrations and advertisements throughout, in very good condition, although there is some soiling from wear to the covers. An early Penn Relay program with neat period advertisements including one for Marmon automobiles and one for the Peerless Motor Company with early 20s automobiles. The 1926 Penn Relay featured another "innovation," it was the first time that a public address system was put into use to announce results. The nice cover illustration of two relay runners handing off a baton was done by Robert Foster, who illustrated Penn football programs for a long time.
The Penn Relays are the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States and began in 1895. Among those who have run the Penn Relays some well known names are: Jessie Owens, Roger Bannister, Usain Bolt, Buzz Aldrin, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, and even Bernie Sanders, Wilma Rudolph, Bob Beamon, Edwin Moses, Joan Benoit Samuelson, and Marion Jones.
