Program for the annual University of Pennsylvania Relay Carnival 1957. 72 pages with illustrations and advertisements throughout, in very good condition. Roger Bannister is listed and pictured in the program, he was entered into the "Benjamin Franklin Invitation Mile Run" representing Oxford and won the race with a time of 4:08:30. In 1954 he would go on to become the first runner ever to break the 4:00:00 barrier running the mile.
The Penn Relays are the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States and began in 1895. Among those who have run the Penn Relays some well known names are: Jessie Owens, Roger Bannister, Usain Bolt, Buzz Aldrin, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, and even Bernie Sanders, Wilma Rudolph, Bob Beamon, Edwin Moses, Joan Benoit Samuelson, and Marion Jones.
