Vintage brass bookend of John Harvard measuring 6" x 4" and stands 7.5" in height and is very heavy. The front says "John Harvard". The back of the bookend has the maker's mark engraved in it and it says, "Daniel C. French Sc Patent Pending". Daniel C. French is a famous American sculptor whose best known work was the sculpture of Abraham Lincoln that is the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. and was completed in 1920. He also sculpted the "Minute Man" in Concord, Mass. in 1974 as well as dozens of other sculptures. French lived from 1950-1931. French is also responsible for the life sized sculpture of John Harvard which was created in 1884 and sits in Harvard Yard. The sculptures were manufactured by the Jennings Bros Manufacturing Co. Bridgeport Connecticut. Uncommon.
