Early Bronze University of Pennsylvania Relay Carnival Medal. Undated, looks to be cast in bronze. Ben Franklin is depicted on the front, his right hand shaking the hand of one of four athletes, as he extends an olive branch with his left hand. Founded 1895 is inscribed above Franklin and the four athletes. The last athlete is holding a relay baton behind his back. Maker's mark of William C. Martin stamped on the bottom obverse. Nice patina. The medal measures 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

The Penn Relays are the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States and began in 1895.
