Circa 1905 antique Harvard University pitcher with an image of a period baseball player. The pitcher is marked Avon on the bottom. Hand painted. The baseball player on the front is about to throw a pitch, and is beautifully decorated, featuring a classic uniform with the traditional "H" on the front of his jersey, and the image is signed F. EARL CHRISTY. Gold leafing around the rim. There are two dark spots in the glaze. One is behind the center of the handle and the other is right below the handle, some minor crazing. On the back of the mug is the Harvard University emblem in Latin. The pitcher is very large at approx. 14" tall and 7" wide at the widest part. Overall, in very good condition with vibrant colors. The pitcher was issued as part of a set with mugs and is rare. Christy is a well known American artist who lived from 1882 - 1961. Early in his career he specialized in early college images and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. The mother lode for Christy collectors and the ultimate gift for the Harvard grad!
