Early image of Princeton College. The back of the stereoview says, "Princeton College and Vicinity, photographed by Wm. R. Howell, 867 Broadway, N.Y." Someone has handwritten in Sept 21, 1875 and "from distance looking towards North College." It wasn't until 1896 that the College of New Jersey was renamed as Princeton University. When viewed through a stereoscope, the two images on the left and right combine to give the viewer a three dimensional image. Stereorviews began in the 1860s and were popular through the end of the nineteenth century. Measures 6 1/2 inches x 3 inches. Rare.
