A dramatic growling Tiger with Princeton. The tiger took hold as the University's Mascot in the late 1800's when sportswriters started to refer to players who wore Orange and Black shirts as “Tigers”. Tiger statues and monuments are all over the campus. His expression on this plate shows the ferocious defensive & aggressive nature. The back is marked Avon Royal China International Potteryware William Exton, Trenton N.J. Some crazing, No chips or cracks.

Very good condition.

A rare plate representing an early version of the Princeton mascot.
