Original Dance Card from the Yale Freshman Prom in 1944. The card measures 2 3/4" by 3 3/4" and is in good condition with the original blue tie string attached. Dance cards originated in the 18th century and were used by women to record the names of the gentlemen she intended to dance with at a formal ball. They were used widely in the 19th century. It's unusual to find a dance card used as late as the 1940s. The Freshman Prom was held at Woolsey Hall from 10pm - 3AM. 4 internal pages have spaces for names for 10 dances, 9 of 10 have women's names written in pencil.
